Information On Your Rights (If You Are Not Seeking Representation)
As a result of professional constraints, Disability Rights Advocates (DRA) cannot offer legal advice on cases that we do not accept for litigation. If you are only seeking information at this time, here are some resources that may be able to provide the information you need:
Disability Business Technical Assistance Centers (DBTAC)s provide information, materials, technical assistance and training on the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and accessible IT. This number will connect you with your region's DBTAC: 1-800-949-4232 (Voice/TTY). You can also complete the email form at the DBTAC website.
Questions about disability access in the United States can be answered by the Department of Justice ADA Hotline at 1-800-514-0301 (Voice), 1-800-514-0383 (TTY) or by visiting the ADA website. General access questions can also be answered by the Access Board at 1-800-872-2253 or by visiting the Access Board website.
For people with low income, your local Legal Aid Society may be able to provide information. You can find your local Legal Aid by visiting the Legal Services Sites Directory. Or visit the American Bar Association's site for a list of pro bono agencies in the United States.
For FAQs about access to Public Transportation, please contact Easter Seals Project Action at 1-800-659-6428 or visit the Easter Seals website.
For information about your employment rights and job accommodations, please contact the Job Accommodation Network at 1-800-526-7234 or visit Job Accommodation Network website.
Although information on the web should never be accepted as fact and every individual's situation is very different, "surfing" the web can often provide general legal information and resources where you may ask your specific question of people dealing with similar issues.
There are many disability rights listserves, including those that are specific to different disabilities. DRA moderates a disability-civil-rights listserv in which people with disabilities and other advocates discuss and organize concerning all disability civil rights issues. You can join by returning to our resources page and completing the form. Please note that DRA is not responsible for information disseminated by any party over the listserv.
We also want to caution you that, if your question is related to a potential lawsuit, all cases have limited periods of time in which claims, complaints, or appeals can be brought. Accordingly, if you intend to bring a suit, you should promptly consult a lawyer or check the applicable statute of limitations and act promptly.
