DRA Fellowship (2012-2014)

Disability Rights Advocates (DRA) is currently accepting applications from third-year law students, judicial law clerks, or recent law school graduates for the DRA Fellowship. The DRA Fellowship is awarded to an exceptional candidate who is passionate about disability, civil rights, and public interest law. This is a two-year fellowship that begins in September 2012. The deadline for applying for the DRA Fellowship is January 20, 2012.

DRA is a non-profit legal center with offices in Berkeley, California and New York City. The DRA fellow will work primarily either out of DRA’s central office in Berkeley or DRA’s branch office in New York City.

DRA’s mission is to ensure dignity, equality, and opportunity for people with all types of disabilities throughout the United States. DRA's national advocacy work includes high-impact class action litigation on behalf of people with all types of disabilities, including mobility, hearing, vision, learning and psychological disabilities. Through negotiation and litigation, DRA has made thousands of facilities throughout the country accessible and has enforced access rights for millions of people with disabilities in many key areas of life, including access to technology, education, employment, transportation and health care.

DRA has a long-history of mentoring and training young lawyers to practice law in the public interest. The DRA Fellow will have extensive opportunities to participate in every aspect of the litigation process and will receive substantial training, mentoring and supervision. In 2012, the starting salary for the DRA Fellow will be approximately $47,000, plus partial loan repayment and excellent benefits.

  2. Proposed Project (if any)
  3. Resume
  4. Copy of your law school transcript
  5. A list of references (with contact information)
  6. Writing sample (no more than 5-7 pages)
