Anna Levine joined Disability Rights Advocates (DRA) as a staff attorney in October 2008. Prior to joining DRA, Ms. Levine worked as a staff attorney at Protection & Advocacy, Inc. (now Disability Rights California), assisting adults with mental and developmental disabilities through direct representation in administrative proceedings and in state and federal court, as well as through policy and legislative work, outreach, and training. Before that, Ms. Levine spent two years as a Skadden Fellow at Mental Health Advocacy Services, Inc., asserting entitlements to community-based treatment and discharge planning on behalf of institutionalized adults with mental disabilities. She received her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2003, and her B.A., with honors, in History from Columbia University in 1998. During law school, Ms. Levine represented tenants in eviction proceedings through the Landlord-Tenant Clinic, and served as a student director of that clinic as well as its representative on the board of the Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organization. She was also Managing Editor for the Yale Journal of Law and the Humanities and was awarded a John M. Olin Fellowship in Law and Economics. She clerked with the Health Law Unit of the Legal Aid Society in New York City, and with the Judge David L. Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law in Washington, D.C. Ms. Levine is admitted to practice in all California Courts, in the U.S. District Court of California (Central and Northern District), and in the U.S. Court of Appeals (Ninth Circuit).
