Julia Pinover joined Disability Rights Advocates in 2007 as the David Boies/ LD Access Fellow in DRA’s Berkeley office. In 2010 Ms. Pinover opened the New York City office of Disability Rights Advocates. She is now the Senior Staff Attorney in charge of Disability Rights Advocates' New York office.
In New York City, Ms. Pinover's practice focuses on class action and impact litigation concerning all types of access barriers faced by New Yorkers with disabilities. She has helped to bring about several key impact litigation cases on topics ranging from taxi and subway accessibility, to the accessibility of polling places, to emergency preparedness for persons with disabilities.
Ms. Pinover received her B.A. from Dartmouth College in 2002 and a J.D. from Georgetown law in 2007. In 2010 she earned a Masters in Law (LL.M.) from NYU Law. Ms. Pinover serves on the New York City Bar Association Civil Rights Committee focused on legal issues affecting persons with disabilities. In 2007 Georgetown Law awarded her a Deans Certificate for outstanding service to the law school community. In 2012, Dartmouth College honored Ms. Pinover with the Distinguished Service Award. In 2012 the Comptroller of the City of New York also honored Ms. Pinover for outstanding legal advocacy work. She spoke at Yale Law School’s Rebellious Lawyering Conference on accessible transportation, and was a guest lecturer at Cardozo Law School on emergency preparedness. She was also a speaker at the NALSWD conference in Washington DC, and she has also presented to the high school of Trinity School as part of that school’s distinguished alumni series.
Ms. Pinover is admitted to the State Bar of New York, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Ms. Pinover is also admitted to the State Bar of California, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
